would my 1050ti (4GB) 16gb ram pc be goood enough for this?
You won't be able to render on your GPU (not enough VRAM for one). Your CPU might be able to handle it, but your PC will probably struggle and if she starts smoking...it's time to pull the plug on your Human.
I think about ten years ago that was something like the top GPU, but we've come a long way since then...
I have a machine with a 1650 (4GB) and it couldn't render my Human (out of Memory). On CPU and with 32 GB RAM it wasn't a problem, just slow.
Maybe try Kent's finished portraits and see if your PC can handle them...
Hi every1,
Can you expand abit what you mean with optimize and tone things down Omar? And Martin, did you have 32 GB RAM from start or have you upgraded? If the later, do you have any recommendations when upgrading the RAM for a laptop?
Hi Tom,
that one came with 32 GB RAM. I don't know how to upgrade a Laptop's RAM, but on a Desktop, it is best to have the exact same make and model and if possible use 2 RAM 'sticks' for best performance (if you have 2 x 8 and want to upgrade to 32 GB, it is best to go for 2 x 16 and not 4 x 8 or 1 x 32...)
Hello Omar - can you explain what you mean by "try linking in your assets to another scene"? Do you mean making a new Blender file? Or, does CG Cookie have vids on optimizing? Thank you so much - great content!!!
Yes, making a new Blender file. So if I have a scene where there's a lot of assets and the poly count is high, I have a lot of textures, etc, I kick off a render and my video card brings up the out of memory error, what I usually do is I render in a totally new file. So I open a new .blend, go to file and link and I link all my assets to this file and there I do the render. With the data linked in the memory consumption drops down a lot and my video card starts the engines and renders away.
As far as I can remember, there isn't a lesson on CG Cookie about optimization. We have focused on optimization in collabs, so maybe if you're willing to watch any of the collabs 2020 and 2021 you may find some gold nuggets in there:

If your asking about following the course with the detail level required then it depends on your CPU.
It's the CPU that does the calculations, your GPU used is to render and produce the image you see.
But like I say, the CPU does all the heavy lifting behind the scenes trying to stop Blender from crashing.
You GPU will be ok for your display while modeling in solid view, but will struggle when you want to render.
