loop direction

so frustrated , my model looked good till you looked at the wireframe , i decided to start over. I was wondering does the shape of my mesh ( position of vertices) also determine where a loop will go? sometimes it seems like everything is fine and for some reason i cant get the loop to go where i want it

Deciding to start over is great. I don't get a mental picture of what you mean by the position of the vertices, but my guess would be no, that does not matter. You can have a fine looking quad geometry of a face going one after the other with positions that make sense visually:

Then you can distort the position of the vertices and make a jumble, and a face one after the other will still be the same for Blender, your loop will go through equally:

thx ,ya thats what i meant, i think my mesh was just too messy and blender was stubborn in which way the loop would go, i guess you could consider my first model a block out and now i know the key areas so it doesnt feel like so much of a waste

Yeah, it's never a waste to figure out what works and what doesn't. You got this 💪
