Hello CG Cookie community,
I need your help.
I' am trying to install a standard non-experimental and default consumer version of Blender 3.6. When I try to install the latest and greatest version of Blender for Windows 11 it says its grabbing a mirrored image from a server in Berkley, California. Is this standard?
When I launch the installed version of Blender 3.6.2 for windows-x64 it appears to have some sort of "custom" features to enable Key-Binding and a tampering of the default Keymap settings. So much so that basic shortcuts and numb pad commands and hotkeys don't work properly. This is making learning the software unnecessarily difficult. Commands and available shortcuts are either limited or disabled preventing the most basic of user prompts and hinder the creation and development of 3D artwork. It appears that even the "factory default" settings for blender do not remedy any of the issues that appear to be queued up as blender is launched. It would appear that a tampered sandbox environment has been created to run in the background which prevents blender from operating properly.
Please advise. I am just trying to learn how to use the software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
David Allison
Hey David,
Did you download from Blender.org?
Is this the first time you install Blender? If so, how do you know if something is wrong? Maybe you just got freaked out because it downloaded from a Mirror and expect a corrupt Blender...
What exactly is different from what you expect? (Just give a few examples...saying that: "basic shortcuts and numb pad commands and hotkeys don't work properly" is really too vague.)
You could also post a screenshot of the information screen with the hash:
(This is from 3.6.1 and the Linux version, so yours will be different)
You can get that by clicking on the About Blender:
Hey ddkballison,
Some Hotkeys may not work if you have other software running at the same time. This is common if you have GPU software with hotkeys enabled for screenshots, replays, recording, streaming, etc., etc..
Disable hotkeys in any other software you have running, or better still open Blender without any other software running, and disable hotkeys in your GPU software.
Try again and see if the problem persists.
Have you installed any add-ons in Blender? Apart from free add-ons shipped with Blender. Some add-ons will also use hotkeys that override the default Blender hotkeys.
It is also possible, rare but possible, an error occurred during the download and install. If the above fails to resolve the problem, download Blender again by visiting blender.org. I have seen some unofficial sites appear when searching for Blender.
Hope you get this sorted soon.
