Bones to Curve

Just curious about this. Wouldn't it be easier to create a curve spiral to match the spring, then create a bunch of bones and apply the spline IK bone constraint to them, and then apply the pose? I think it will same a lot of time, even better if you have the original curve you used to create the spring. I'm still learning a lot but I think this idea works.
