Kent, HI I enjoyed this course (mostly :) ) For the most part I found this course clear and easy to follow BUT I found that the textures (paint, grime, scratches) and normal/bump map just dropped out of the sky deus ex machina. Were they created with Photoshop using the UVs? I'm kind of left a bit frustrated.

So in this course the scope never included the creation of said textures, just their functional use as applied to material creation. Is that where the confusion lies?

I guess the question is, where do I find how to do this. Is there enough in the course on 3d painting to achieve this. Am I assuming it is more difficult than it actually is? Thanks for the reply.

I'd be very interested in that too...

It's common to source photographs for assistance with creating textures. Pixabay.com is an amazing CC-0 resource for high-quality photographs that can be used for textures (and a bunch of other stuff). Search Pixabay for "grime" or "scratches" to get these textures falling out of the sky :)
