AI Image Generators Supported/Encouraged?

Question

So I've not been on this website for quite a while and came back today to check what's new and also upload something.

And while uploading, I saw AI as a suggested tag.

Are AI generated images support/encouraged on CGCookie?

I would suspect AI images are supported, as in a PNG or JPEG sense.
As for encourage, well I personally am not a fan of, and wouldn't encourage, displaying AI art in a gallery for artists that spend many hours honing their skills, and many more hours to produce their work.

An art gallery, such as the one here on CGCookie, I would hope, is for artist to display a masterpiece of their own creation.
AI art may have it's place in the world, for quick production for an advertisement with a looming deadline for example, but artist galleries, I would suggest not.

I would love to here other peoples opinions on this topic, including the mighty boss cookie @wesburke

Thanks for asking the question plasmavoyage. AI art, and AI in generally is a hot topic right now, and I expect some AI art may have already sneaked into the gallery.

I agree with Adrian. I guess it's a great tool for giving you ideas and inspiration for you then to produce your own art, but as for straight up generate an image and posting it as art work, that's just a bit too much in my opinion. Given that there's lots of people grinding it out leveling up their skills, it sounds like a disservice to have A.I art in the gallery. But again, not to throw the tool under a bus, generated A.I images is a welcome addition to an artist tool belt.

It looks like the AI tag was added in 2017. Tags are used to help in the search, with no official AI category on CG Cookie.

Similar to what Adrian and Omar mentioned, as a Blender site, I encourage renders in the Gallery to be that from Blender. Recognizing it's part of a workflow where other software may be involved. If you used AI to help generate the idea, feel free to tag it. Happy Blending!

    Alright, thanks for the reponses!

I agree, I deleted my Artstation Account after they decided to support and encourage AI generated content.

I think the worst part about AI is that it's mainly being used to automate things that never needed automation. Instead of developing AI to take over mundane everyday tasks or assist disabled people, it's being used to replace Arts, Music, Writing. Things that have always been driven by human emotions and experiences and have always been accessible to everyone.

Instead, people come up and argue that a software generating things from a database of stolen intellectual property is equivalent to a human brain that has shaped and developed through decades of nutrition, emotions, experiences, education, and actions.
