In the 3d paint lesson, when I am in Texture Paint mode and going from Texture to Solid in Viewport Shading, nothing happens. however, when I go from Cycles Render to Blender Render it works. Why is this? The video is in Cycles Render and everything is the exact same in my Blender but the Texture-->Solid just doesn't work in Cycles.

Cycles displays textures for painting based on which Image Textures node is selected in the active material. Blender Render displays textures for painting based on which texture is assigned to the models UV's in edit mode.

I think I'm having the same problem, that is switching from Texture to Solid mode does pretty much nothing at all. I also check that the right node is selected. With Blender Render everything works fine. Here's a screenshot: http://postimg.org/image/8c1a17vsx/

I'm having the same issue. Did you ever get it resolved??

    Same problem here.

Oh wait I think I fixed mine - we still had "shadeless" checked from a previous lesson. It looks like if you're in Blender Render and have shadeless checked, then going between texture painting and solid in the viewport shading menu works as you said. But in Cycles Render you have to uncheck shadeless to get the same effect as solid in Blender Render.

That seems to have fixed the issue, thanks.
