UV unwrap makes an array of tiny cubes

I just started into the video, 00:34 in and I have run into a strange issue.

When I try to right click to clear seam (after selecting everything with alt-a), the option is not present because I'm in a newer version of blender I suppose. So I went to the menu up top in my 3d viewport and selected UV/Clear seam and then in my UV editor I see an array of tiny cubes for the unwrap. Unwrapping again gives me the array of dots still, but with two small circle unwraps in the corner and no large square like in the video.

Hello Thomas. Can you post a screenshot or maybe a video screen grab to see this in action. But I think that really isn't a problem per se, since you cleared the UV's, whatever method is set Blender will make the UV's in a few different ways, but that's just a default layout product of how the model is in itself. At that point in the video the UV's is not yet worked at. The important part is what follows of unwrapping the shader ball.

I tried to use imgur, but its down and unreliable right now, thats why I posted in the discord.

Okay, I see what you are saying and will continue the rest of the video. Thank you.

    Hey Thomas,
Alt+A will deselect everything, clicking Clear Seam will only clear the seam from selected edges.
Alt+A used to toggle between all unselected and all selected, that's not the case anymore, A = select everything.

I have the same tiny cubes issue. ll UVs messed up.png

Then went through all the different types of unwrap and back to the plain Unwrap and got this. Total confusion

    thehomme ,

That could be a Smart UV Project Unwrap, with a small Angle Treshold:

If it's a low angle limit, tell us if that fixed the issue.

No. I'm picking the plain Unwrap. None of the other options.

Hmm... The unwrap does an unwrap and pack, and if there's no possible unwrap then it skips that step and just does the pack. If you did a reset and then tried to unwrap a sphere without any seams, the unwrap would fail for being impossible and you'd end up with the squares from the reset but packed. Is that it?
