Anthoshee's Polybook

Polybooks

Hey everyone, I am Anthoshee. I work in IT and have been looking for a creative hobby. A friend and I decided to make small games in unity together, so I decide to learn how to make game assets. I plan on using this polybook to keep track of my progress so I can hopefully come back to see improvement.

I tend to ramble a bit about how I feel about each post. Feel free to ignore that. It's more of a way for me to  remember how at felt at the time then for others to read lol.

Awesome. Best of luck in your game. Maybe one day I'll be playing it and I'll be like, I know the guy that made it.

    Hey anthoshee

I am not trying to put you down or anything, but it looks to me that you have a Vertex or so out of whack, causing a 'pointiness' to what should be an oval:

...and yes, you will get better and this is a great way to keep a 'diary' of your progress! (I wish I'd thought of doing that...)

    Hey Martin,

Thank you for pointing that to me. I am not sure what I did to make that happen lol. I feel like going back and fixing mistakes is a good way to learn. I think it's fixed now, though the changes I made altered the shape of the cup a bit.

Did some basic modeling practice for the mesh fundamentals and mesh modeling bootcamp. Here's the results. Nothing impressive, but repetitively using the tools is helping me learn so that's good.

Today I finished up my low poly room for the "Fundamentals of 3D Mesh Modeling" course. This was hard for me. I probably spent way to long on it for what little is actually in the scene. It was good to use the tools with out any real guidance and to see if I am really learning. I feel like I did a decent job making the objects I put in my scene, but it was hard to come up with ideas of what to make.  Over all it was a good experience.room.png

That is one of the nicest room exercises I've seen in a while. Feels welcoming and nice, probably due to the fact of the nice lighting that is flooding the room. Good work.

    Thank you!

I enjoyed the low poly scene I made yesterday. I didn't enjoy modeling today. I feel like I went two steps backwards instead of improving. I did the  Modeling with Modifiers course and I can see how modifiers can be really useful but I had a hard time using them. I am am not happy with the wheel I built and will probably redo it in the near future.

Well, the use of Modifiers seems to be okay, apart from the fact that you appear to have gone overboard with the Subdivision Suface Levels (especially at the spokes and rim).

But yes, modeling with Modifiers is 'less direct' and some Modifiers take some time to get used to, but It's worth the effort.

I'll definitely keep the subdivision surface levels in mind going forward. This was my third attempt at modeling the wheel this way and the array modifier was difficult for me. My mesh was always a little off and trying to fix it would just cause more issues. While it isn't realistic, this attempt at least kind of looked like a wheel and was circular. In my frustration I decided it  was good enough for now. I will push through and figure out how to get a realistic looking wheel this way. I just needed to be done yesterday.

Didn't get much done over the long weekend here in the US. I Did get some of my submissions graded so that's nice. I started moving on in the Blender Mesh Modeling Bootcamp. Here's my attempt at the soccer ball.Screenshot (5).png
