no mix rgb node?

Hi I am using blender 3.5 and I don't see a mix rgb node in the shader tab when he talks about it at the 12:50 mark. I tried to search for something similar but couldn't seem to find one?

    Hi Brandon,

    It has been renamed:

    MixColor.png

(As this Node is being used so much, there are very likely going to be problems when opening a file made in 3.4+ in 3.3 or before.)

Yes, as Martin says, try to keep your Blender up to date because if you are using a Blender before that node changed, it will appear with a red contour, meaning Blender can't find it because it doesn't exist. So if you see a red node, know that you opened a file intended to be used in a updated version of Blender.

ok so how should i deal with situations like this in the future if nodes or other objects/menus keep changing as I update but the old videos stays the same, especially older lessons I see on here from like 2.7? I was meaning to ask about this eventually, also sometimes I may not be able to work on blender till the weekend with long work hours and updates come quick with blender which is good but I could have projects made in earlier versions as a result.

    Hi Brandon,

I'd recommend using the same Blender Version that is being used in the Tutorial. Especially in the beginning; over time you'll know Blender well enough to be able to use any version you like, regardless of the version used in a Tutorial.

(It's not really do-able to make corrections to courses every time Blender changes something; imagine a 2.80 tutorial with annotations for e.g. 2.83, 2.90. 2.93, 3.0, 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, 4.0,.....that would be a mess and you can't  have only annotations for the latest Blender, because people use LTS's and other versions, like the latest their hardware can handle...)

But if you get stuck, just ask.

Yeah, no one can keep up with updates to Blender, is just in the nature of the beast. What we all have to do is update our info in our heads and re-learn the things that changed. It's not a big deal really, because once you know the concepts, when they are not confusing to you anymore, it's easy to just readjust and learn whatever change there has been implemented in Blender. In the beginning you just have to give it time for the knowledge to sink into your brain, keep at it and don't give up.

yea ok i may keep that in mind to use older versions at least for the really old tutorials as learning the concepts is more important first than having new features

Thought I'd add to this for anyone else stuck at this part. Along with the name change, there is a checkmark option that isn't in the version used for this tutorial. You must uncheck "Clamp Factor" to get the node to work as in the tutorial. Otherwise, when the Factor is set to 1, you just get a black screen rather than the video.

    Hey Jonathan 33DTitties ,

    That doesn't sound right!

The Clamp Factor doesn't do anything, when the Factor is in the [0, 1] range (so that includes 0 and 1!).

When the Factor is set to 5, for instance, then with Clamp Factor on, it will use a Factor of 1 and when Clamp Factor is off, then it will use a Factor of 5.

(...and I think the MixRGB, clamped the Factor automatically...at least it did that in 2.79..)
