Why is the scale keyframed... you mention " for safeguard" you say. I don't see a reason for doing this? Also you don't apply the scale to it..... is this in this case not really of a matter?

Good question.
Even though the scale is not animated, it has been changed from default. So it's nice to save that information 'for safety'. What if you accidentally hit Alt S and don't realise, or can't remember what the scale is meant to be? This is going to break your animation.
So keyframing it is an extra layer of safety.
It's also helpful if you have to append animation data from 1 file into another. That way the change will be recorded and your new file will look exactly like the file where it came from.
(Hopefully that all makes sense)
