Randomization not always working

When duplicating the parametric buildings (with Shift + D), i sometimes find myself with a new building displaying the exact same combination of "random" colors, but not always. I have not been to reproduce this situation consistently...

Also, the colors do not change when i modify the different input values of the HSV randomizer node.

Does anyone have experienced this problem ?

    Hi @koala ,

did you read through this post: https://cgcookie.com/community/14679-speculation-on-why-logarithm-works-best ?

If you throw a coin, not every throw will be different (otherwise it would be a pattern: heads, tails, heads, tails, heads,...)...randomness is weird and if you play roulette, the chance that you get 23, directly after 23 is the same as that you get 23 directly after 7, I hope  you know what I mean...

That was a stylish explanation Martin. I would say it totally mundane. Like yeah, you're going to have patterns repeating and you'll feel random is not random enough, it happens.

To change the colors you have to make the range wider for the HSV to take effect. In the tutorial Kent narrows the range of the values quite a bit, so the random isn't way too random.

@koala I definitely experience the same things. While I don't doubt a better way to randomize, it's easy enough for me to duplicate until I get a satisfactory variety. Not a sexy solution but gets the job done.

Martin makes a great point about randomness being weird. Not necessarily what is expected by the user.

Yep it is weird indeed. Sometimes i would get the exact same combination of colours 4 or 5 duplications in a row... thanks everyone for the answer.
