Inspired by the latest "Sessions" course, I decided to try and recreate planet Mercury. The task, at first, seemed quite simple, but then I ran into a little smidge of a problem with one of the defining details of the planet which are these streaks of white lines and small white, almost glowing, dots scattered around the surface (see the attached image). I've been trying to figure out how to procedurally make these, but I am hitting wall after wall.
Any ideas? Thank you in advance!
Hi Rob rrobdomenech ,
The spots can be made with a Voronoi and Color Ramp (new 3.6 spelling).
For those lines, have a look at: https://cgcookie.com/courses/shader-forge
Specifically the Brushed Metal and the Marble lessons.
Another article that is very useful (if you have a bit more time) is by Blenderinsight: "Procedural wear from A to Z in Blender"
(it's under his "Knowledge base nodes")
Thank you so much for this response, Martin! I am going to look into the shader course you mentioned, and I'll tinker around with Voronoi and Color Ramp for the spots. I'm still very new to material making, but I'm learning something new every single day!
There's also this super advance procedural material creation course from the Blender HQ. I tried watching it and my brain melt. I still want to jump back at it but my brain is still melted.
