Select all objects on a keyframe (Dope sheet summary)

Question Animation

Hi, I have been trying to figure out how to select all the objects that are on a keyframe in the dope sheet summary. But I cant find anything on the subject. I was wondering if this is possible or maybe it isnt? I have a key frame where I selected several objects in a complicated scene and want to adjust them all, but now I cant figure out how to reselect them. Some are hidden inside other objects, so it is very difficult to do it in the viewport. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello Harlen. I'm a bit confused, you are trying to selected the objects via the dope sheet? So instead of selecting the objects directly in the viewport, you want the selection to happen via the keyframes in the dope sheet?

I don't think that by selecting the keyframes that can be done, but if you select the object under summary, so in this example that would be Cube.001 and Cube.002, if you hold Shift and you click on the name, your selection gets added each time.

Also maybe just for once, you can select the objects in the viewport and add them in their own collection, say the "Animated Objects" Collection, so that the objects that are in there you can easily access each time by right click and "Select Objects".

Hi Omar, You are right in that I wanted to select all the objects that had been keyed on a certain point on the timeline (I talked about the dope sheet because the summary shows all keys on that frame). We have so many ways to select objects based on relationships, materials, etc. I just assumed you could do it for objects that were keyed on the same frame. There have been many instances where this would be really handy and I have always wondered why I couldnt figure out how to do it. Now I know.

Your idea of putting them all in a collection ways exactly how I ended up doing it. Thanks for that!

I have been playing with animation for about 9 months, but just started the classes here in CG Cookie last month. They are helping tremendously.

    Thanks again for the response!

Dangs you're right, that would be very handy, I had never thought of that. Selecting for objects that are keyed on a specific frame. I'm trying to think if there is a clandestine way, but I can't think of any. One way that I can't seem to understand much is by keying set. If you use the Shift + G hotkey you get the select grouped menu and there you can select by Keying Set.

But I don't know exactly how Blender knows that I have set a specific object as a keying set or whatever. If I go to animation in the menu, I can set a keying set but I don't know if that's different then when you do it in the timeline:

I will play around with the keying set stuff. I havent ever messed with that before. As I said, I have played with animation for a while, but without taking any classes, I have been reluctant to mess with things I didnt understand. I am getting better, but have a million miles to go.

The other thing that would be handy is to select a frame in the time line, and have Blender tell me what transforms have been keyed on that frame. So many times, I have an object selected, and want to move the key, but I am not sure what else will be effected. And I just cant find an easy way to see it. I know you can scroll through the dope sheet and find them, but they arent grouped together. And in some of my models (I use for work) there can be 3 thousand objects (no exaggeration, I have a vehicle model open right now that has that many). So, if I start a long animation (disassembly of the model), I end up with everything keyed at least once. The dope sheet is so long, it makes picking through them manually impossible (or at least it adds hours to my work). If I could just click on the dope sheet summary key, have it pull the effected objects to the top (and select them in the viewport) and show me the transforms that have keys, that would be fantastic.
