Nebula

Hi Kent, I tried to put some Nebula into the scene but when I put a Cube over the scene (Principle Volume) the stars disappear-which seems obvious because they are locked out. But how do I make the cube "transparent" int this scenario?
Thank you

Martin

Hello Martin. You mean your cube is visible instead of the volume fog? Or do you mean the fog has the noticeable shape of a cube? Maybe add a screenshot or two to better see the problem.

Maybe try cranking up the emissive strength of the stars? Like 10x at first, then 100x, then 1000x. If it's still not shining through the volume then we'll have to think of something else.

For a nebula I would think the volumetric cube would be 0% dense in all areas except the nebula cloud formations. If this is true, then the stars shouldn't have a problem being seen. But if it's not 0% outside the cloud formations, I'd try to make that happen too.

the first one is with the stars but emission seems not really an option If i crank it up too much it shines like a fresh pressed dime. It should somehow be "Transparent"

    Solution

    Hi Martin,

    In the second screenshot:

Try controlling the Density of the Volume with the Color Ramp (maybe through the same Brightness Contrast Node), not only the Emission Strength. At the moment the Density is one all through the Volume, so the Stars can't shine through...

Less density would do it, I mean if it's too dense then it wont show what's behind it. You may be able to get a balance but you're going to ave to sacrifice it being too foggy?

Ohhhh thank you very much Martin

I am still playing around with the sliders... might take ages ;-) But density def was what I haven't seen
