You must grab your object first for proportional editing circle to pop up?

This trips me up a few times since I don’t use it for too many things yet, I wonder why you have to grab the object for the circle to pop up then just selecting it in either mode if anyone knows.

    Hi Brandon,

That is probably, because Selecting doesn't use/isn't affected by Proportional Editing. Only Transforms.

Simple answer is in the name, proportional 'editing',
Selecting is not editing, the action of a transformation is.

Yeah you have to grab it for the circle to pop up. And to add to the trickiness, sometimes you are too zoomed in or your circle is too big and you grab and the circle doesn't even appear, and you're like, where's the circle? Well it's there, only that it's off the screen because it's either the radius is too big or you're too zoomed in to the object.
