my bevels on the edges are not working!

Your Normals are inconsistent; In Edit Mode, select all (A) and SHIFT+N, to re-calculate the Normals.

As Spikey said its the face orientation.
You can check the orientation of the faces by enabling the setting in the overlays menu.
Blue is the positive direction or external, Red is negative or internal.
Tools like the bevel will have problems when to adjacent faces have conflicting normals.
And when all external faces are flipped, AKA Flipped Normals.

And last but not least, check to see if you have double vertices, it happens sometimes. So in edit mode select everything with A and then M -> Merge by distance. And an extra step is to make sure your scale is 1, 1, 1 because a scale not applied can throw off the beveling, so apply your scale.
And you may want to do the SHIFT+N after the Merging, just to be sure, because if you have two Faces with opposite Normals, you don't know which one will prevail:
