Save version 0?

I am not sure I understand that bit. Does that mean Blender will never have an autosave file? Or is it just as a temp file and it will be auto-deleted later?

I also turn that to zero. And yes, that means Blender will not generate the autosave files. I like to live dangerously. So Blender wont create the extra .blend1 and .blend2 files that get saved on your directory every time you hit save.

Not quite Omar. Turning that down to 0 just means you won't get the blend1 backups.
Blender will still have the autosave (that is located in your /tmp folder but that is cleared when your system reboots).

Say Blender crashes - hey it happens sometimes. You can relaunch go to File > Recover Auto Save.

You should see the latest version of your file there.
And the 'last session' is a similar thing but it is whatever file you had open when YOU last closed Blender.

But I'll say this again.....those files get deleted when your system restarts.   So if something breaks, don't think "oh I'll go to bed and fix it tomorrow".  Do it before you reboot ;)

Of course, if your kid pulls the plug out of the wall (which also happens) you only have the luxury of your incremental saves.

There you have it Martin. Which one do you choose? Your trust on incremental saves or Blender's 0s and 1s simulated brain? There's no right or wrong answer. Although one can lead to Skynet, just saying.

Except if you change where your Autosaves get stored:

    Temp Folder.png

You'll need to clean that out from time to time, of course; it's no longer a temporary storage...reboots, or children pulling the plug won't delete those files.

Note, this is not what I've done, but just for demonstration. No one needs .blend1 s.

...and one more sidenote: on OpenSuse (and I bet there are more distros that do this, but this is the only one I know of), by default your /tmp folder does not get emptied when you close your computer.

    • Thumbs up!

Also on Windows you can set when the files in the /tmp folder get deleted, or not at all.
