Avoid jumping in view port when leaving side / front view

Something which really drives me crazy at the moment is a big jump in 3d viewport when I use front or side view (with Numpad 1 or 3) and then leave this view by rotating the viewport with my middle mouse button. Esspecially when I moved in any way while in front or side view (for example up and down or zooming) - as soon as I start to rotate the scene by pressing the middle mouse button I completely "loose" the object and I need to navigate back to the object in the viewport.
I realized that these front and side views are always orthopgraphic view and as soon as I press the middle mouse button this changes to perspective which mainly causes this big jump I think. How can I avoid these jumps when I often need to change between front / side view and then I need to rotate the view?!

    Hey Tobias,
Pressing . on the numpad focuses the view around the selected object.
You may also want to check your navigation settings in the preferences.

Don't worry, it's normal behavior, you'll get used to that. As Adrian said, just use the period on the numpad to focus the view on your selected object.
