Asymmetry and retopo with Mirroring.

Sorry if this has been mentioned or will be covered, but I'm afraid I might have missed something. Using the mirror modifier doesn't take into account my asymmetry, so only one half of the face will be accurately retopologised. Could you please clarify the workflow here?

    Hi kieran kkieranjduncan ,

There are broadly speaking, two possibilities, if the asymmetry is nott too strong, use the Mirror Modifier for the whole model and then Apply it and correct the asymmetric verts. Or, if the asymmetry is too strong, use the Mirror Modifier for as long as you can and then Apply it and do the rest of the retopo for both sides.

Yeah I'd go with staying symmetrical for as long as possible. Then when you need asymmetry, I'd duplicate the model or do a save as, just in case I need to go back.

At 12:14 in the asymmetry lesson I explain why I don't implement asymmetry until after retopology. My apologies for the confusion - it was a risk but I decided that addressing the concept of asymmetry in the first chapter was more fitting with the other head shape concepts. But as far as workflow, it's definitely better to wait till after retopo so you can maintain symmetry benefits as long as possible.
