Controller direction button (D-Pad) won't create a single face

When I highlight the D-Pad it doesn't create a single face like in the video.  I tried removing the central edges but they seem to be attached to the outside edges somehow although extruded like in the video.  Once I finally got rid of them and rebuild the shape if I now press 'f' it creates a face horizontally then a face vertically, which returns the internal edges back inside the cross?  Hope that makes sense.

    Hey Paul,

    You may have double vertices!
Select everything in edit mode with 'A', then press 'M' and Merge By Distance.

Can you share a screen grab of the problem?

It seems to work if I extrude one edge at a time to make the + shape.  It occurs when I try to extrude the two edges at the same time using scale, so I guess that's what is causing the issue.  I'll try watching the last video again to see where went wrong.

Hi Adrian, thank you.  I have tried to follow the video but now it won't allow me to extrude and scale the two edges at the same time! Lol.  I will stick to just doing one edge at a time as still in my infancy with the software.  I want to try and do the controller without following the video after this so will see what happens then.  Thank you for replying. :)
