contract a shape around another object

Question Modeling

I want to suck a head in like it's made of cloth and I'm going to use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out of the head. With the cloth simulation and a negative preassure value, this works very well. however, i want that there is a form in the head and that the head wraps itself around it. As if there were a shape in a balloon and you let the air out of the balloon. Does anyone have an idea how I could set up such a simulation.

Many, many thanks in advance... Max

    Hi Max,

You need to have Collision Physics enabled on the 'shape'. If there are still some areas, where it doesn't collide, you should look at the Collision Settings in the Cloth Physics (enabling Self Collision as well, if needed).

Great thank you! I just did my first experiments and it worked so far. Do you perhaps also know how I could assign a certain materiality to the head relatively easily, for example leather, silicone, silk, etc.? So without having to work my way through the settings in particular? Maybe there is an add-on out there I don´t know yet... Many thanks so far!

Well, you can try the Material Library (comes with Blender):

Don't know if that will work with a shrinking head...maybe you'll need to go into the Shader Editro and change the Texture Coordinates from Generated to UV...

I believe that head is Alfred Hitchcock's head. Am I right? The master of creepiness is  now creepy himself.

  • Maximilian Erl(Max-Erl) replied

No, that's not Hitchcock, but Walter Boll, a former museum director in Regensburg. A friend of mine is researching the person intensively because Walter Boll probably played a very dubious role in National Socialism. This is quite explosive because Walter Boll shaped the museum landscape in Regensburg well into the 1970s and his history has never been worked out. The city has now promised me a grant to work artistically with Boll and now I want to blow it up, suck it in and stuff like that... and then print it out with a 3D printer.

That is quite interesting. Never would've Mr. Boll thought he would be Blendered and yet here we are, getting him digitally vacuum cleaned.

Thanks very much. I found five presets for the cloth simulations here. Does anyone know of a library that can be used to expand this? For example, I'm missing silicone or various substances, etc. Thank you very much! Max

I wouldn't know, but you can search the Blender Market, maybe some one made an addon for that:
