Blender 3.4 - Skin modifier

posted to: Skin Modifier Base

Help, using the skin modifier right after extruding the vertex does not create the pillar around the vertexes. Instead, all I get is the red lined ring.

What am I missing?

The skin modifier is a bit finicky, you have to massage the vertices for the mesh to settle where it is most beneficial to you. In other words, move them vertices a bit, as you see the mesh changing you yourself decide where to leave it. As far as I know, there is no exact science to it. Marking a vertex as root makes a lot of difference though, that's the red lined ring you refer to. So move the root around and see where you get the best results. The "Mark Root" button is in the modifier. Also the mark loose button helps settle things.

    Hi David Azikio ,

Don't forget to Move the Vertex you just Extruded! If two Vertices are close together you get this:

    Skin.png

And if they get even closer, it will appear to disappear (you get a block with one side having a length of zero).

    A, thank you.

I also happened to have a hidden vertex I didn't see when I added the modifier.
