texture brush not imprinting sharply

posted to: Brush Textures

i noticed that when you are using your brush, the texture is imprinting clearly. I have tried many types of textures, and all of them imprint blury. I am using blender 3.1, not sure if something in the settings needs to be changed. what do i do?

    Hi Rahim,

did you watch the entire lesson? Kent mentions blurriness due to resolution.

If you use the default Sculpting File, you get a sphere with rather low resolution (you can see the Resolution when you enable Wireframe, or switch to Edit Mode):

You can switch to Object Mode and add a Subdivision Surface Modifier of Level 2 to the sphere and Apply it. Then go back to Sculpt Mode and try again.

(There are other ways, but this is probably what Kent did here...)

Yeah and not only the resolution of your mesh, but also take into account the resolution of your image texture. If you're using a low res PNG or JPG, you're going to get bad results also.

hi there, thanks for the information. I did watch the entire video, i noticed if i increase the radius and decrease the strength to half, it worked better, however i am not sure why? any thoughts? This was done on the sphere model that was provided.

If I had to bet, I'd say it's probably a viewport perception at this point. If you change matcaps to ones that have sharper shadows and such, you see your sculpt change dramatically, likewise if you change the shading to any other, looks change a lot. In that same vein, probably there's a perception that you see things working better but it's just how the viewport is displaying and relaying back that info to you. In the end, lighting is important to extract all that detail, if you have flat lighting, things just don't pop out.
