Scaling UV maps in last part of video

In the beginning of the video we always 'average Island scale' after making seams and islands. In last part of the video all parts get scaled so it fits better in the UV map area. This suddenly doesnt seem to matter. Doesn't this mess with the scale of the textures when textures are applied?

    Hi Robin,

That is an excellent question! It does mess with the scale of image textures, but when different parts use different textures, you can 'compensate' for that difference in scale. And when you are painting the model, that 'compensation' happens automatically.

The advantage is, that important parts can get a higher resolution than unimportant parts. For instance, when unwrapping a human head, you'll need more resolution in the face, than on the back of the head.

This is by no means a perfect or complete answer, but I hope it gives you an idea of how different situations can require different methods.

I'm a little OCD with that, I like all my UV's to be average in scale. But even so, the parts that I know are not going to be visible ever, I go ahead and scale them very little do I leave more density in pixels for the parts that really matter. So yeah, it's ok if you do that.
