Face Project vs Face Nearest

posted to: Snapping

Hi Jonathan,

I am using Blender 3.4.1 on Windows 10.
I noticed that the snapping options have changed and now offer:

-Face Project
-Face Nearest

Can you please explain the difference between the two?

Thanks

Here's the explanation on the manual:

Basically the difference is one takes into account occluded geometry, the other does not.

Yep! The first one snaps to what you see on your screen (which means it cannot snap to the back of objects and the sides will be stretched) while the second snaps to whichever face is closest to it in the scene.

Thanks a lot!  Really enjoying the class and looking forward to submitting my room!

One of the use cases for Face Nearest Snapping is, for instance, that you can snap a cylinder around an arm.
