Mark seam with mirror modifier (overlapping in UV)

Question Materials and Textures

For symetrical object, is there a way to just mark seam for only half of the object and then applying a mirror modifier?

It will make the job easier cause we don't have to mark seam to the other side. I tried it with a simple cube and it doesnt work. The mesh on the UV is overlapping and when you paint on one side, it also paint on the other side.

It would be fun to save time and work less harder to have the exact same result. :-)

The mirror modifier will mirror everything, including UV's
Try adding the mirror mod, add your seams, apply mirror mod, then unwrap, this should mirror the seams then by unwrapping give you new UV's

Yeah I know. But the problem is that it's overlapping inthe Uv. When I paint on one side, it repeats on the X axis. :-(

    Hi Max,

Maybe a bit late, but try enabling UV Mirroring before Applying the Modifier:

just U, or just V should also work.

I learned how to do that by re-listening to the teacher. You have to apply the mirror and re-unwrap if I remember correctly. Thx for the tip.
