How can we properly pack all the island if they are not the same size?
It makes a complete mess. The checkers are too big on some of the meshes.
For example, the pot, top of the head, with the handle. Checker are too big. File
First, remember to check if the scale on all your objects is 1, 1, 1, otherwise the scale of the UV's will be off.
Blender can do those things for you automatically, but you can always go for a more manual approach. And it's ok if an island is bigger than the other, if the head is bigger than a finger, the UV islands will match those proportions.
I applied the scale. It's much better. Now, there is some piece, for example the feet and controller that the checker tiles looks too big...
Is that a problem?? New attempt
Well, it'll all depend on a case by case basis. Maybe you don't want too much resolution in one area and a lot on another. It might in a situation, it might not. It's you model, so you have to be the judge and you'll just develop the intuition by trial and error.
Try to move forward and decide on your own. If you see you're not getting the results you want, adapt and redo. You'll also develop some confidence. Keep up the good spirits Max.
The only thing I think of is that I can just isolate the mesh and pack it on the whole island. Than paint it. That is all I think is the solution for me. Unless there is a better way.
I would like to buy the pack master 3. I have no money right now, but I think it should help.
Hi Max,
That 'New attempt" file looks almost perfect, the only thing I noticed, is the bottom of the head:
That is because in Edit Mode, that part is hidden, so it doesn't get considered when unwrapping. ALT+H to un-hide it and then re-unwrap.
The rest looks perfectly uniform to me.
The only thing I think of is that I can just isolate the mesh and pack it on the whole island.
That's a plan, move forward with it. Try it out. You can also have different texture image files for different parts of the character, maybe because you want more resolution and you don't mind the extra memory. Execute plans and if you make mistakes, that's ok. That's how you start learning what approach works and what doesn't and it'll be easier to make the right decisions earlier on.
