strange checkers texture

Question Materials and Textures

What do you think of this face? How to make it so that it will be not deformed? checkers

Here is another try. (I forgot the subdiv in the last example.) Another try

.... The more I check, the more is badly done... :-(

This is my best and I have no clues how to get this better. I dont like the checker not to finish at the edges.

    Hi Max,

First of all, you need to Apply the Scale of the handle!

Then I'd put my seams something like this:

    Seams.png

You can clearly see where the seams are in the checker pattern, but when you are going to paint the texture, you'll paint over the seams (that's a bit like magic!) and you wont be able to see them anymore. What you want to look for in the checker pattern is consistency in size. Which is more or less the same as having the UV's as blue as possible.

Btw, I only looked at your third .blend as you said that's the best...

Oh, something else I forgot to mention:

you have moved your Edgeloops inside the hole so close to the Edge, that you accidentally made the Edgeloop the Seam, in stead of the Edge:

    EdgeLoop.png

I fixed that by M > Merge > by Distance, and then adding two new Edgeloops on the inside, but I had already forgotten that I had done that, so I failed to mention that in above post.

    Hey Max,

That is just the Subsurf bending the Seams; all blue, all perfect:
