Unlinking Editor Panes

I know this question isn't about the graph editor but... You know when you have your extra editor windows and they scale independently but it gets to a point where two get linked? Like your timeline editor and your properties panel start moving up and down together. Is there anyway to get them to not do that?

    Hi DDaemeon ,

Not directly, as far as I know, but you can join the 3D View and Timeline into a large 3D View, for instance and then open a new Timeline...

I do a similar thing but I usually go to top right of timeline editor(The widget) and drag down. Then join the 3D view port to the smaller timeline editor(The one stuck with the properties editor). This way you save the extra step of having to change the the editor type.

Right, thanks dillenbata3 ! That is indeed faster!

To be honest, the problem has never happened to me....Had to try hard to make it happen, the margin where the two get 'linked' is pretty small...

Well it happens to me about once every two weeks, but then I have no friends and no wife anymore and never leave the house and just do stuff in blender like 14-16 hours a day. I see what you guys are saying about a solution. I will try it next time.

I don't even know what is it that happens, it's never happened to me. Next time it happens, see if you can post a video, I'd like to see that.

    Hey Daemeon,
Yeah like Spikey said, there's no way to stop it from linking together (that I'm aware of).

But some ways to mitigate that would be save your own preferred layout.  This is helpful in many situations.
You can open a file and choose not to load the UI.
This will use the current open file's layout.

But if you have your own preferred layout saved, you can add this to any file you want and then switch to that workspace really easily.

I'm trying to find out if we have a video on how to do this.....(asking some peeps because we have 40 bazillion videos)
