Select linked faces: TexPaint vs. Edit?

"Select linked faces" is available in both Edit mode and TexPaint mode, but seems to work a lot differently. I am having difficulties using it on the complex motorcycle model.

In Edit mode, after L/Ctrl-L there is an adjust dialog for Delimit. The default seems to be Seam. I can change it to Normal to get all connected faces.

In TexPaint mode, the Delimit always seems to be Seam. There is no adjust dialog. Is my understanding correct?

The motorcycle model has many many seams, and interior/overlapping faces. It is challenging to see and select things. What I really want to do is to select all the connected faces of a mesh island, since that often has the same material. I can do it in Edit mode (with Delimit:Normal), or select a face and Ctrl-KP+ until I reach the boundaries. I don't see any way to do the equivalent in TexPaint.

(I always find it difficult to see which faces are selected in TexPaint anyway - maybe just me. It seems much easier to hide/show the areas I want to work on in Edit. This is especially true for complex models like the motorcycle.)

So Edit/select -> TexPaint/paint is a reasonable work flow? Or is there a better one that I am missing?

That sounds about right; selecting in Texture Paint Mode is extremely limited!

Maybe there is an easier way I don't know of, but I also select in Edit Mode and paint in Texture Paint Mode, when using Selection Painting...

When I have to select and deselect a lot, I always save my selection on a vertex group. So when I need to select those specific faces, those are saved for easy selecting. Also there's the ALT + B hotkey on the viewport that lets you clip the view for those areas that are hard to get to, then ALT + B again to release.

Yeah, I really wish they were the same, but the switch to and from Edit mode is something I do as well.
