i'm stuck on the second platform and adjusting the momentum of travel without screwing up the positioning of the ball

posted to: Obstacle Drops I

only focusing on the getting the first two platforms correct at the moment.

Question:

I'm happy with the amount of frames, the timing, but the spacing is extremely difficult because anytime i try and adjust my curves to get the interpolation or spacing correct so the momentum feels more natural to me i inevitably screw up the positioning of the ball so it clips that first and second platform and it then looks glitched. It seems impossible to get the spacing correct, momentum accurate, without getting the positioning wrong and having the ball clip the platform. Do you have any suggestions as to how i can fix this? thank you

Any suggestions please? when the ball is nearing the lip of the second platform the spacing is too wide so it speeds up too much but i can't fix that without then getting the ball to clip the platform and it becomes what feels like an impossible balancing act, Gahhhhhh

    Hi,

I don't know if any of this will help, but here goes -

    - don't get frustrated, when it does get frustrating take a break, you are doing great.  Personally, I submitted this exercise numerous times.

    - You can always add more key frames, to help avoid the intersection, with the platform and add more frames to slow it down.

    - why does your ball hit the second. platform and bounce up the platform and not down the platform.

    - the second drop slows down at the bottom, it shouldn't.  You need adjust the handles to be more vertical like in the bouncing ball exercise,  The bounces need to be flatter in the ending (refer to bouncing ball exercise).  I would maybe add a couple of frames, seems a little too fast compared to the rest (second drop)

    - I would add a couple of frames to the the first bounce at the end,  the distance and height variation is great, but the timing should also be different.

    - I think in Wayne's example,  at the very end the ball rolls a little, then overshoots and rolls back, small thing but makes it look more natural.

    - If you get really stuck just submit the exercise and Wayne will help, he is great.

Hope some of this helps, I know these exercises seem like they should be simple, but you are learning some important fundamentals.  It looks great so far, everyone get frustrated, shouldn't type some of the things I said.

I tend to hack my way through this situations by keyframing every frame to force the ball where I want it to go, then when I'm happy I start to clean up the excess keyframes. But it's not ideal, you loose a lot of time.

I made you a video about your 2 posts.
    Hope it helps.
