Level up

Question

Why am I leveling up?

What makes you change level? I am currently at level 4. Asking question makes me level up? Cause I didn't finish a course in between.

I don't know. I think the leveling up system for the website is a work in progress still. But I'm not sure about that. Adrian might know more. In the older website we used to compete a lot for levels and XP and leader board places, all in good vibes and just having fun. We want more gamification and cool stuff for this new version of CG Cookie, I guess it'll take time.

I think there are specific point values between levels, but I don't know exactly what they are, and I don't know that they're the same between levels.

You get points for turning in exercises, answering questions, etc.

I think you also get points just for watching the videos, and or getting loves on gallery images you submit.

I ask questions. I watch a course and I model. That's all. I'm at level 4. Which is encouraging. If you want to work for a compagny, are levels valid for the employeur? Or is there anything that is valid of what we do here for a CV?

You can at least put your work on a USB to show as a proof that you can model and animate.

CGCookie levels are unlikely to mean anything outside the CGCookie community.

They're a good way to maybe track your progress and/or bragging rights in the community and/or a way to see how experienced and/or how fast somebody in the community is progressing.

An employer is likely to look at:

       a) Recent college grads

       b) Your portfolio

       c) Maybe a specific program.  Not a CGCookie course, but something by an art institute that has a reputation, even if it isn't an accredited degree.  (Caution on the latter.  These can be expensive, and it's difficult to rate how well the industry really rates the program.)

From what I can gather you can't directly take your work at CGCookie and present it to an employer.  For instance, even if you did a spectacular job at. . . PotHead, or one of the Melvin animations, they're recognizably CGCookie assets and something you've been walked through.

You could take what you learned from those courses and make a PotHead like character and/or a Melvin like animation and use that as part of your demo reel.

    Hello and merry Christmas

I think leveling up in CGCookie is something that help you and others to learn more, ask their question and get some advices. it's more like community of designers. the cool thing about this is we have rankings! It's FANTASTIC!!!

For ex. if you like someones reply you get +1 XP and so.
