Rig me no understand

posted to: Rivet Walk Cycle

For some reason I can’t get a toe pivot happening.  The control I believe must be the one to do it is just sort of hanging underneath the torso and not doing anything.  Also whats with the grey versions of all the controls left behind at the start position?  I’m having trouble grokking this rig…  working on the rigging bootcamp for now, I think my problems are just ignorance about how this rig works so I hate to keep having to bother you guys about it…  anyway here’s a picture in case it’s an actual rig issue. 4A-182E1B487DBE.jpeg

Hi - don't know. if this will help, but in rig layers you have both the legs(ik)) and legs(fk). toggled on (blue), toggle the legs(fk) off.  I think the walk animations uses legs(ik).   Also the walk animation has arms(fk) on and arms(ik) off so toggle those too.  The gray bones are all the WDGT  (bone widgets),  turn their visibility off in the outliner.   Hope it helped some, good luck, animation if fun.

Everyone struggles at first bodhi, we're here to help. No one figures this stuff on their own. Thought this foe is beyond my skills, there are other warriors around who can shot down this beast.

Hi Bodhi - this version doesn't have the toe pivot in the same location.  It's actually at the ball of the foot.

In regards to the grey controls - they are the widget shapes as it looks like you are animating in the actual rig file rather than linking in the character to a blank file and creating a library override. (then it will only bring in what it needs - not the physical shapes)

Or maybe you appended the character into your file rather than linking?

You can also hide any layers that you are not using (like the FK legs).  That will make it visually less confusing.

But yeah, don't worry if you are struggling with stuff.  Ask as many questions as you need.
