Greetings CGCookies,
I have a question about the stamp painting we did in this lesson. I have painted the "Surface Hot" text but, it seems to be under(over?) the area where the rust spots are procedurally added. I see an outline for the text but the black coloring is not showing. I have tried changing the size/pattern of the rust so that it would be placed in a different area (so as not to overlap the text area) but, I would like to know if there is a way to have this text appear over the rust.
I appreciate the advice,
Richard
I think my stamp is also under the rust layer, but if you'd like to move it so that it's more visible, you could mix it in after the rust. You can think of each mix node like a layer, and instead of moving it up a layer like in Photoshop, you can move it to the right and mix it after the rust 'layer'.
Yes, there is a way for the text to appear over the rust. In the order of the nodes, you need to put it after the rust so it appears on top. I agree, most likely the problem is in the order the nodes are in your shader. It's hard to tell so as Spikey says, if you could share the .blend we could take a look.
Ok, this is my first time sharing a .blend file. I selected File -> External Data -> Pack Resources. Is this the correct way to get you everything that you require?

Thank you,

That is excellent @Kno0ne ,
I think the problem is with the highlighted MixRGB Node, you have set it to Mix, which makes it blend in with the second color, more when the Factor gets higher. As the text is quite dark, I would suggest setting it to Multiply:
And yes, your Mix Node looks a bit different, but I am using 3.4...that is what it will look like in the future.
Right on! That makes sense, thank you very much.
Also, I've been wanting to thank everyone who is a part of CG Cookie. I've been learning a great amount, the videos/courses are friendly and easy to understand, but it all started with belief. When I first started looking into 3D modeling I stumbled across the Gameboy tutorial. I was in a headspace where I was not sure if I could do it, or if it was for me. Being able to progress through that project as a complete beginner was amazing! When it was complete I remember staring at it with a bit of disbelief saying "I made that!?" My thoughts quickly turned into "I can do this!" and I believe that.
The strange part is, I feel like I know you guys now, or that we are friends lol (at least the guys in the videos). I'll watch and listen to the videos 4-5 days out of the week and it has become a consistent avenue of knowledge/learning for me. The way the instructors speak throughout the videos is genuine, and kind. I can tell that you actually want people to gain these skills. It has had a tremendous impact on my life already, and yes, that makes me very excited for the future!
I felt the need to tell you this, because, unlike in a class room where you might see the excitement from the students, you probably don't get that opportunity as often here. You did something to build belief in me and I would like to return the favor. What you are doing here is wonderful, you are making a difference and building people up. I would guarantee that there are more people that feel the same way as me, who just haven't voiced it to you.
Please share this message with everyone involved with CG Cookie. Nothing great is accomplished on our own, and I appreciate all of you.
Thank you <3,
Richard
P.S. I will make these adjustments to Pothead and once I finish the Lighting Fundamentals I will post my renders!! :D Woot Woot!
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement :)

This project? https://cgcookie.com/courses/press-start-your-simple-first-blender-project
If so, that only came out earlier this year, and to go from zero to an intermediate project like Pothead in less than a year is... absolutely wild. You're crushing it!
