Brush acting weird on whees

Hi

Struggling with tidying up the pink on the wheels. The brush is acting weird if you can see in the video below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

Hmm can’t add video, so I’ll add photos. Basically, one touch of the brush on top of the wheels creates a long line that extends down. I don’t get why.

Maybe it's not the brush but your UV's. Can you post a picture of how your UV's are laid down?

My  UVs look fairly similar to Jonathan's:

But they seem to be doubling. I don't know if I have x2 layers on top of each other?

When I click on this face, the face seems way bigger in the UV editor than it is in the 3D viewport.

There's the wheel UVs. I think this is the problem?

However, I'm not sure how to fix it. I don't know how it got like this either.

IIRC, once you've started texture painting you can't edit UVs. Or can I?

If so, how would I go about fixing this.

    Many thanks for your help.

That UV island seems to be the culprit yes. You're going to have to redo your UV's and probably loose what you had done so far. But that's ok, that's just how things go. Before I start texturing what I always do to see if the UV's are good, I use the checker texture and see the model from all directions to see if I spot some distortion of a funky face.

Also remember you can display the stretch to see if you have any bad UV's

Most important of all, see if your wheel scale is 1, 1, 1. If not apply the scale because that always distorts things. For now try and UV unwrap your wheel the best you can. You can use the follow active quad method. JL uses it in this lesson at around at the 7 minute mark.

Thanks for that! I'll redo the UVs then for the wheels.

One question though: would it be possible for me just to do the wheel, then scale the UVs down to the right size and place them where I've already started painting the pink wheels?

  • Omar Domenech replied

Yes, you can do that. Since it's circular you'll probably be ok doing that. If you have to redo a thing or two, it will still be some good time saving.

Cheers, one thing I've noticed though is that when I select the face of the wheel, it also an edge from the other parts of the wheel: how I separate them?

  • Omar Domenech replied

I think I understand what you mean. Try turning on UV Sync Selection and using the Face select selection mode. See if that accomplishes what you're after.
