"Real" Download of courses possible?

Question

Hi,

I was happy to spend the money for having someone help me get into Blender. Unfortunately, I keep failing, I just don't understand how this software works - now that I have time on my hand and my subscription running out soon, I would like to make the best of the investment and at least download a few courses for studying.

This does not seem to be possible. I can only download single snippets (very short clips - the courses are, very unfortunately so, "broken down" into "hundreds" of single clips which makes watching them impossible for me, as I speed up playback or skip forward where I am not interested or wheel back when I want to rewatch something - which does not work with broken-down streams).

Is there any way - except for paying a LOT OF MONEY AGAIN through that "blender market" thing - of downloading courses "AS COURSES" (whole thing) instead of snippets?
(
Ideally, without getting blocked because I try to make my money pay off?)

I'd really love to make SOMETHING of the financial investment I made :-/ Thank you.

Hello Marc. Apologies for that. I am going to ask the supreme cookies about that because I really don't know. I thought when you downloaded a video, it was the entire video that got downloaded.

I would also add that don't give up, remember two things: Failure is success in process and to succeed is to stumble from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm. Keep at it, you'll start to understand things little by little. Give it time, keep trying.

malbrecht The subscription is based on streaming videos rather than downloading them. Still, each video offers the ability to download it in full, however we don't facilitate an ability to download an entire course of videos at once.

I don't know what you mean by "hundreds of single clips". I just checked and videos download in full for me, not as a shortened clip. Can you expound on what you mean?

    Hi,

hmm ... I subscribed to this thread but did not get any information about responses. That's ... a pitty, really, because I have now cancelled my subscription due to the problems described and don't feel like changing that.

Trying to answer the questions: The courses are split up into many, many very short clips (a few minutes each), which doesn't work at all for me (I tend to listen at double speed to get the gist of it, TRY MYSELF and then wind back to where I missed something if I fail).

Unfortunately, I live in a country that does not have reliable internet connections (Germany) at the same time that I have time at my hands. "Streaming" would be cool if I was getting paid for watching videos online, alas, I have to work for my money, so I can only really have a look at videos when internet is wonky at best. Downloading ("buffering") videos is the only way I can make use of such courses.

Sure, it's a valid response to say "nobody sold you downloads" - but so is a customer giving feedback that this has driven him out of subscription.

(deleted a lot of unnecessary rambling that doesn't help anybody).

    Best,
    Marc

P.S. since I do not get any notifications about responses, please do feel free to contact me directly if you'd like to discuss anything!

Understood Marc. Again, apologies for the streaming method not being ideal to you. Hopefully, in the future, if it works better for you, you can just purchase courses you are interested in from the Blender Market. Cheers.

How DO you download the individual videos? Because this is something I have been meaning to do. Good thing I take notes. I thought I could eventually download the stuff I have watched but I guess I have to do it video by video?

Yep. I DID find that after searching on the internet for a while. Thanks. But I also discovered a lot of other resources that CGCookie has on offer to download so I am happy about that.

    Hi malbrecht,

I'm another member who likes to download the lessons.  I'm sorry to see your frustrations with the courses being split up as they are.  I will often work from a coffee shop, where the internet connection may or may not be. . . full speed, depending on the crowd and what they're doing.  (I'm probably one of the worst bandwidth hogs.).

Typically what I've done is created a "Class/Videos" directory.  I'll go to the class I'm doing, say the "Animation Boot Camp", and just download the videos into that videos directory.  Once downloaded my video player allows me to add the directory as a play list and play at whatever speed I choose.

It's a little more work to download them individually, but once I've done that it's actually easier to match up the course content.  I don't have to guess/write down/or remember the timestamp of a particular topic.  It's video 3-2.

Thanks for the feedback.  Good luck with your learning!

I like that you can find content here for various skill levels, from beginners to more experienced artists. I'm still a complete beginner myself. When I was studying, I used a convenient service, described on https://www.insurdinary.ca/budget-travel-destinations-in-canada-for-students/ with a plagiarism detector and other helpful tips for writing various articles and texts. I think CGCookie will become a similar assistant for me now.
