Exactly What was Needed

posted to: Up-res Retopology

Thank you for this lesson. This is exactly some info I need.  I want to animate my heads and bodies. After 140 heads sculpted, re-sculpted, and re-re-sculpted, trying different ages and racial differences, I hated them a little less and moved on to the next lessons. Now I stare at peoples noses and ears when I'm around folks...my rating as 'nut job' has probably increased. But is is so much fun.

    Interesting to read your comment.

I did at least:  140 X 15 = 2100 heads sculpting. However, all those heads are not re-sculpted, but they are (large or tiny) modification built from the previous head. I'd like to say that my head really start to form an ideal shape and ideal facial feature when I did my sculpting around the 1900th head.

So far, my hard drive is no longer able to store all my heads sculpt. I have to store them in an external hard drive or delete them.

If some strangers have ideal facial proportion, I also stare at them. If the situation is too embarrassing, then I come forward and introduce myself, and offer them some money to let me stare at their faces for a little longer time. In most scenarios, they laughed and did not ask for money.

Lol, offering strangers money to stare at them. I'll start a savings account now, because I want to learn sculpting humans.

That also happens when you're doing hard surface modeling, you being to stare at things looking at their imaginary wireframe. Also when you're starting to learn about material and shaders, you start to notice reflections and fresnel in everything. And non of that goes away, you stare no matter if you're an expert in Blender. The only difference is objects don't mind you looking at them. Glad to know that also happens when you're learning sculpting humane figures. Maybe it's also a good idea to start learning martial arts then.

It is actually well worth of paying strangers to look at their faces.

If you observe carefully in our ordinary life, there are a number of ordinary people whose facial shape and proportion are well above the quality of the popular movie stars and celebrities. For various life reasons, they did not choose or had no chance to choose the career path to be fashion models or movie stars. But the quality of their faces is like gems in the ocean - it is HARD to find the similar quality by Google search thru the internet or Stock images. The money is very well spent.
