Wireframe Render

Question

How do you create a wireframe render in Cycles using the wireframe modifier or another method to show the subdivision in optimal display?

Sorry, I don't understand your problem...why can't you do this?

Is it the optimal display, that's troubling you?

Do you want to make something like this:

    Display1.png

    ?

Yes, like the monkey with it being rendered in Cycles. I tried the wireframe modifier but it does not give the optimal display but the wireframe view at the level the subdivision is at.

I got this render with a subdiv level 2 using the wireframe modifier. Can I get an optimal display render with this modifier? :

I ended up getting the optimal display render with the freestyle edges:

You can always apply the subdiv so you get that geometry for real. Save an extra version before you render with the modifier applied.

There is also this old node setup that I used all the time back in the day. I believe it still works, it takes advantage of the less than and greater than operation in the math node to isolate all the faces. It's a material based hack that worked like a charm for me. It's the Cycles Wireframe Shader, you have to be logged into Blendswap to download it. I'll link you up:

And lastly, there's the wireframe node in the input category. Bad thing about that one is that it show the triangles. Maybe people have figured out a way to get rid of the triangles with a hack somehow.
