Unable to bevel geometry

posted to: Outlining the Shape

I'm having an issue where I am not able to bevel as expected. Although the numbers are correct in the bevel window, I am seeing no visual change. After a quick google search I ensured the geometry was scaled properly, and that there was no doubling of the geometry either. I ended up deleting the item and redoing it successfully, but I am unsure of where I went wrong to begin with.

    Hi Riley,

I'm glad you got it working, but that makes it hard to figure out why it didn't wotk in the first place.

Two of the most common issues (when Scale is Applied and there are no 'Double Vertices') are:

the Modifier is working, but the effect can't be seen in Edit Mode, or Clamp Overlap is turned on (it is by default!) and there are some small edges, that prevent the Bevel to go beyond a very small size:

Yeah about 90% of the time if the bevel is giving me a hard time, it's the clamp overlap that is causing it. It caps the limit of the bevel to avoid it becoming a crazy mess. If I was to place a bet, I bet the problem with your geometry was some rogue inner face or some vertex where it wasn't supposed to be. There are addons and other tools that check your mesh for you for this kinds of errors. Here's one with a quick search on the Blender Market:
