Silly bug not fix not working. Vertices exploding after turning on multi res

posted to: Detailing the Eyes

Hi hi!

So I was following along with the shape key lesson and everything was fine until I closed the eyes of my sculpt. As soon as I turned multi res on, my vertices exploded along the corners of the eye an the eyelids are very bumpy. I have no idea what i did wrong. I will attach the link to my blend file via google drive. thanks in advance!

    Hi rubybard ,

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. Unfortunately this happpens sometimes (it's a bug after all) and as far as I know, the only way, is to Smooth out those rogue Vertices 'by hand'. Kent does that later on in the course as well. Make sure your Smooth Brush Fallof is set to Sphere, that makes it easier to 'hit' the endpoint of each spike.

Try to keep the  switching between Multires levels to a minimum.

This is not fun, but the end result after finishing this course, will be worth it!

rubybard Martin is correct that this "exploding vertices" artifact is something I have to address at the end of this lesson starting at 23:40. It's not the same issue as the silly bug but an unfortunately common one still with multires sculpting.

    Hi Hi!

It's me again. So I keep running into the issue of fixing all of the vertices that explode but then every time I hit save, the vertices explode yet again, is this an issue that you've come across? I am really struggling to progress with this project because of this issue.

    Hi rubybard ,

I have noticed that as well; saving appears to make things worse.

Try to save less; only when finished fixing all the Verts in all Multires levels (from the lowest to the highest level)...

You might also try this (haven't tested it yet, nut it might work): if you can, Mask out the head (without the exploded Vertices) and then use the Mesh Filter, set to Smooth...
