Def Body Bone Positioning

Hi Wayne,  I'm having issue with the positioning of the Def Body, Body, & Main bones.  In the Rigging The Car Body lesson,  these bones are not positioned in the center.  In the Rigging Suspension: Symmetrize lesson, they are centered.   Is there a way to move these bones to the center without affecting the children bones, geo, etc... ?

Hello Dan. I'm no rigger but first thing that comes to my head is maybe you can un-parent the bone, move it, and then parent things again?

Also there's this little cool options menu that lets you affect only things like origins or locations. If you enable it it will only affect what you tell if to and leave other stuffs in place. I hope this can be of help while Super Duper ACE Wayne comes flying from the skies to your rescue.

Thanks Omar,  that option works well with object to object parenting, but isn't available when working with bones in edit mode.

I ended up clearing the children on everything, then re-parenting.  It was a little time consuming, but I'll chalk it up to being a lesson learned.  :)

Hi Dan, You must have missed the bit where I pointed out this error and where I fixed it.

That was a silly mistake I made because I was talking at the same time as doing stuff...which

But the easiest way to fix it would be to unparent any geo that is already parented to any of these bones (except if you used bone relative parenting)

Then select each bone and change the x value of the head and tail to 0
(or position the cursor anywhere at x = 0 and then scale the bones to the cursor but constrain it to the x axis)

    Then reparent.

But you are correct, it is an excellent learning opportunity.
I can't say that you or I won't make that mistake again, but now you know how to move bones around after they have been parented.

I missed the little bit too, and I was going to skip over it and see how far I got because that part about unparenting the geo sounded too scary.  But I went ahead and tried it.  I selected all the geo parented to DEF-Body, Alt P, Clear Parent.  And then I selected each of DEF-Body, Body, and Main, and changed the X of Head and Tail to zero, and then I Bone-parented the geo to DEF-Body.  It wasn't so hard or scary (assuming I did it right).

ggailgongster That sounds like you did it correctly.
But doing scary stuff like that actually makes it less scary the next time ;)
