Banding on skin_utilitiy_DISP-B

Hello,

When I baked skin_utility_DISP-B at Viewport level 2 and Render level 5 (max), I got some weird banding on the nose and brow. Any ideas what might have caused this?

Here is the model at level 5 and level 2 and edit mode respectively

I've experienced those ridges before...If you post a download link to your .blend file I'll be happy to take a closer look. The best way to do this is by uploading your file to Dropbox, Google Drive, Mega, or equivalent file hosting service then copy + pasting the share link here.

Thanks for the file ffearguyq! After 30 min troubleshooting, I think I figured it out!

The culprit appears to be the shapekeys. It's creating a discrepancy between the multires data and the base mesh. Which makes perfect sense in hindsight. To solve this:

    1. Go to your shapekey panel and create a new shape from mix.

    2. Next delete your previous 2 shapekeys with the "-" button, leaving your new shape from mix only. Then delete than one last. This process essentially "collapses" your shapekeys into a consistent base mesh.

    3. Next go to your multires modifer, change your viewport level to the highest (5) and click Apply Base in the "shape" section:

    4. At this point you should be able to bake cleanly with your viewport level at 2, render at 5.

FYI - I'm using Blender 3.5 and ran into the same issue.  The posted solution did not work in 3.5 or in 3.41.

In 2.93.0 and the solution works just fine.
