Hello CGCookie,
I'm a newbie, 66 yr old guy from Seattle. Married to my beautiful wife, 4 kids, 6 grandkids.
Built my own house and barn ( previously we had horses, then turned into a recording studio, now I restore vintage cars, currently working on a 59' Jaguar Mk2 ). We live in Snohomish on 5 acres and can't find a reason to move for the past 32 years.
Self employed for 42 years as a contract drapery installer, installation of all types of window treatments working for Interior Designers, high end homes, vacation spots, private islands and mega yachts.
I decided to shift gears and trim my work down to special assignment only as an approach to retirement. I thought computer graphics might be a fun sport to explore! In my work travels I would frequently fly out of state on projects. These occurrences had some idle time at airports, on flights and hotels, so I began to write a children's book that I've had rattling around in my head. The book has blossomed into 3 consecutive stories about the adventures surrounding a mouse named, Newly. Where I've had starts and stops is illustrating my 9,000 word count book. That is what has inspired my interest in CGI.
I have sketched and painted various scenes but have fallen short in find a consistent format to tell this story. My hope are to a the vary least CG 40 still frame scenes, but it could go into animated mode. The larger scope may need to be some sort of team effort.
I mentioned being a newbie, I've been at it a few months, It started with a doughnut, thanks Andrew! I've made a few models and now looking to continue my quest and get deep into the CGCookie jar.
I sure hope your CGCookie jar experience will land you with the format you are looking for! Good luck and please do share your journey!
