Not sure yet how it will turn out, I see a mini pokemon scene in a bottle. Not sure if it will work out as it has to be recognizable...anyway to warm-up let's start with most basic characterssome may be quite complex.
But first, the pokeball, cause you ain’t catching them all without this…
N° 2 elongate the default cube and give it a subsurf modifier, keep an edgeloop at the bottom to flatten it out and sculpt to eye holes to add the eyes and the nose. add a plane and use a quadratic circle gradient texture to apply earth effect and separate it from the grass. We’ll see later how i’’l use this.
(still somewhat rough, but it’s a quick start)
allright, I never thought it would be so complex to try to derive a 3D image from a few 2d references... I'm trying to make a pikachu, still in the blocking out phase and having a go at edge loops etc to create the basic form, wondering at what time i'd best start to sculpt.
OUCH.... the next screencap is a uncanny valley winner :)
still adding loops and repositioning vertices, starting to go somewhere:
So cute! Nice to see the progress shots. That uncanny valley one is basically Pikachu if it's a real animal =D
attacking the main character:starting with a plane per body part that will be extruded to the basic shape
after extruding and putting the main vertices at the right spot, Ill add some basic textures so I can better visualize.
For the hair to start of quicker I'm experimenting with the spin tool, after that I can move the vertices around to give a more "hair" kind of shape
adding eyes and face decoration and jumping to sculpt mode for the mouth and the nose
I'll try to do a first hand and foot work tonight and then Ill iterate to get it more fidelity
So I was thinking... What if the pokemon had to catch 'm all, I'll explore this idea a little more as it gives a different twist to the game.
I like that idea, it's quite a nice spin. We get to stand in the Pokemon's shoes for a change!
Actually, it's quite unsettling thinking about being "collected" by a giant Pokemon. It's the stuff of nightmares 😅
Thx jammingammon , I never thought making 2d into 3d would be so hard, even with references there are a lot of gaps you have to fill in yourself. Happy with the results so far.
It looks like the concept is coming together. I still feel it is really flat.
I could go for a cartoony horror version
Ashes face is way more visible in this version and there is more depth. I do notice I need to work on pikachu's mouth.
I'll probably end somewhere in between. I'll focus on adding more detail to pikachu.
Haha I love how this scene is coming along!
You mentioned some more depth might be nice - could you use some trees close to the camera and blurred out perhaps?
Or maybe some of your sausage characters (sorry I don't know the name of them) in the foreground and blurred out again - but arranged in a semi-circle looking at Pikachu, almost like worshipping him like a Pokegod?
beefkeef, excellent idea, that gives it suddenly a feel of Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom where the priest is doing some shady ritual. I'll explore it. also I notice the aspect ratio is too narrow. Need to work on camera, foreground deco and aspect ratio next ,
Before tweaking the scene, I gave a little grooming to pikachu. worked with 3 vertex weight zondes for different hair sizes en densities, to go from rough body to finer head and even finer hair around nose en mouth. I think it already looks better.
The coloring of the fur inherits the face texture, that one was created by painting vertex color and using it as fac input from mix rgb and or mix shader. I still see some zones on the feet that need cleanup. the grass density needs to go up and i'll slowly move to the canopy creation. Not sure yet what tree style I want.
Also after that I'll play around with the camera settings to get more depth. I did introduce tilt shift to make the pokemon appear bigger as we lookup to him.
To be continued.
Cheers
Hey guys, just wondering. Is there a way to emit objects that are parented to each other in a hair particle system?
My guess is no, but maybe I'm missing something.
Thx
My guess would be yes, but I'm not sure, because I don't understand what you mean exactly.
Could you try and explain it a bit better?
