Is there a way to create the pores in a procedural way?

It would be interesting for people with a less-powerful computer to be able to have a procedural way to create the pores and then modify certain parameters through something like maybe weight painting, vertex painting or some other method capable of letting the software know where to put what, how strong and such

I like the idea! It's definitely plausible and worth trying I think. I don't recall ever seeing someone add pores to a head completely procedurally and it be as photo realistic as hand-stamping, but perhaps with enough patience and fine tuning.

This could possibly be done through an add-on or become a built-in feature in Blender. Next to using weight-paint information you could add a low-res texture with color information (each channel meaning something different) to specify the pore-density, size and maybe stretching should be placed.

If you do this for specific kinds of skin features separately one could save a lot of time and memory to make a highly photorealistic model. All that would remain to be sculpted would probably be the wrinkles, scarring and other imperfections
