How does Blender 3.0 affect this course?

posted to: Sculpt Brushes I

Hello, I am using Blender 3.0 and when I hit control 5, my menu is different. I am able to hit the little arrow key to make the apply button appear, but my model isn't like the one in the tutorial. When I use the grab brush to make his pokemon like figure in his video "Sculpt Brushes 1" there aren't enough vertices in my model to create the smooth ears he makes. Also, my brushes don't have the same effect as the teachers in the video.  It's kind of frustrating not getting the same results that the instructor gets in the video.  Do I need to enable some settings in "Brush" or "Falloff" ? Any help would be nice. For example, this is what happens when I hit on the "Draw Sharp" it creates very pixelated valleys as if there are not enough vertices to make it smooth.

    Hey ttfusit ,

This course was recorded with v2.81,

The difference with the subsurf modifier with 3.0 and what you see in the lesson,

the options section has moved and changed slightly and moved to under the new advanced dropdown.

The apply and copy buttons are now located along with other options under the dropdown arrow to the right of the icons at the top of the modifier.

For the issue with the sculpting brushes,

I think there has been a few changes to the way some of the brushes behave since the release of the course.

@theluthier would know more than I about the changes and how to resolve the differences.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you Adrian, I really appreciate it. Maybe I should download an older version of Blender just to make sure all the setting are still the same as the one used by the instructor. I'm really new to this stuff and it's been a lot of fun to learn.

ttfusit Using the Blender version the course was recorded with is a great idea! It's really the best way to eliminate the confusion small software changes between versions. Once comfortable learning from a course it's much easier to transition those learned skills to new versions of Blender.

That said, I need to continue getting familiar with 3.0 and its affects on this course. I suspect I will add a video covering those affects to ease the transition.

Thank you Kent, I greatly appreciate it. I'm going to do that right now.
