Hello everybody,
Since 2021 is now going to end, I'd like to sum up my impression about CGCookie this year and give an opinion or kind of feedback to it.
2021 is still a Covid plagued year and things are not going their normal ways so I can understand very good that things in business aren't going as usual. Still I like to mention that this year was a very slow year for CGCookie in my opinion. Yes there was/is the HUMAN course, a behemoth of a course, but to me it seems like that was it...pretty mutch, barely any streams and only a few courses here on CGCookie. To give this year a rating I would give an 85% on satisfaction.
For 2022 I'd love to see a rough schedule that tell which topics are worked on like Game Dev or Sculpting whatsoever. Furthermore I'd like to mention that I'd love to see more stuff about Game Development -> Scripting, Texturing + Game Materials and of course animation of "interacting" game models.
Can you guys give us a peak at your thoughts about live streams?
At second I'd like to know what the status of jgonzalez is. Is he still part of CGCookie? Will there be future courses with him?
Just to clear things up, this is not a complaint of mine. I just want to give a feedback to you, so you have some information how things are going (from my perspective).
Regards,
tobles
ttobles AFAIK jgonzalez is no longer a part of the CGCookie. At least as a tutor. There used to be 4 learning sections Drawing/Blender/Sculpting/Unity. Gonzales was responsible for the Unity part and now it's gone.
But there are plenty of Unity lessons. You can use official ones or, let's say, Brackeys -- lots of good examples for the beginners)
Just make sure these lessons are up to date.
Hey michaelmirn ,
Concerning jgonzalez that's what I've assumed, but I wasn't sure.
Having up to date lessons from Brackeys might be difficult, they stopped making content for that channel about a year ago.
That youtube channel from Unity might be the answer to game development stuff (I'll have to dig in more on that), but hoped that CGCookie will go deeper in that direction with some more tutorials on the whole pipeline.

Hey @wesburke,
thanks for your reply.
Since you put down some numbers, I'd like to say some words to this. 8 courses compared to 11 in the previous year is 30% less, adding the missing streams makes a huge difference between 2021 and 2020. Why am I saying this? Defenetly not to make you tighten the screws and burn your emploees out. At this point I just wanted to justify my previous statement: "Still I like to mention that this year was a very slow year for CGCookie in my opinion. "
You can expect the courses we do release this year to be of higher quality, at the same time our instructors Kent, Wayne and Lampel having more time to answer questions and provide feedback through CG Cookie. I feel this is really where the value of CGC thrives.
I have no idea how the quality shall improve, but now I'm courious what's about to come :D
I don't have any Unity content planned for 2022, though we may be able to sneak in some Unreal and 2D Grease Pencil content related to the http://eatsheep.com project we're working on. 🤘
No Unity, that's ok. I just wanted to know. Giving some Unreal content would be awesome!!!
I like that you confirmed some courses to come. For me it has a lot of weight to know what's going on.
Any particular type of Streams or Blender content you'd like to see this year?
In case of streams, it may sound silly, but I'd love to see Kent doing some spontaneous stuff, so I can learn how a professional is figuring things out along the way.
For Blender content it's game art that interests me. If there are any chances, I'd be glad for anything I can get my hand on :D
Greetings,
tobles
Hello, I wanted to use the opportunity to say I am also looking forward to the Unreal tutorials and any insights you guys gathered with the eat sheep game. Creating assets and and environments for Unreal engine would be very interesting.
In the mean time, there is enough content on the website to keep me busy :)
As a side note, while answering the feedback questionnaire I saw one question about the possibility of running Blender in a browser window as a possible future feature on the website. Can you explain a bit how this would work? Because of the current situation, I am using a virtual computer (shadow) because it is faster and cheaper than buying an overpriced graphics card.
