Hello everyone,
I try to make medical animation like this one :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe6Gt4hYILk
Obviously, it requires a lot of SSS and translucency on Eevee.
I follow the course by @jlampel ( which is awesome by the way ;) )but i seem to lack some understanding.
In Cycles, it seems ok
In Eevee, i tried to mess around with :
On the render tab :
- The options of Screen Space refractions
- the SSS options
On the material tab :
The screen space refraction and subsurf translucency
On the nodes :
Principled BSDF
SSS node
Translucent node
But i cannot manage to have translucency, even when i change lights or world properties.
Does anyone have advice on creating materials like the ones in the videos ?
Do you have an idea of what am i missing ?
Thanks a lot,
Have a good day :)
Hi cchapeline , when using SSS in Eevee you need to enable it in the settings and under the render properties tab in the properties editor.
It seems odd to enable it in two locations , but I understand it is for individual materials in the settings and the calculation will only be done on a material which has SSS activated, to speed up render times. Rather than calculating on all materials regardless of the use of SSS.
Turn off refraction under screen space reflection in the properties panel.
Refraction is the term for a change in direction of light as it passes through an object, water for example.
Reflection is the term used for throwing back light from a surface.
For your purpose you want the light to penetrate the surface and pass through the other side, but if you have refraction turned on you will alter the direction of light as it passes through the surface and then bounce around inside the object. The loss of transparency.
