QUESTION: How to have a vanilla version of blender 2.93 alongside 2.93 with many addons

Hey guys,

I want to make a tutorial for YouTube using a vanilla Blender 2.93.

I already downloaded and unpacked a portable version but this version still uses all the addons and preferences I have in my normal Blender 2.93. @jlampel , @theluthier how do you guys do this?

Thx in advance :)

Hi Florian, as far as I know, it is not possible (or at least unnecessary complicated and depending on your OS...) to have two different User Preferences for the same Blender version, but, what I would do, is have all your Addons and Settings as you like it and then, whenever you want to record a tutorial, just use the Factory Settings:

That gives you a vanilla Blender and the next time you open Blender you have your usual version.

There's actually a hidden feature called Application Templates that allows you to do this:

    Application Templates — Blender Manual

Once you get it set up it's pretty easy, but I actually don't go this route. Since everything I record is the latest stable version of Blender, that is my vanilla version. I use Blender Launcher to keep on top of daily builds, and those are what I have all my custom preferences set in. Once a new version is released and becomes stable, I carry over my custom preferences to the next beta and then load factory settings in the stable version like Spikey mentioned.

That just happens to work well for me, but the application templates is probably your best bet.

This just taught me about the app menu. I never clicked that little blender icon before ^^
